The SECO 00049554 is a solid carbide laydown threading insert designed for external ISO thread cutting at a 1.0 mm pitch. Manufactured to the CP500 grade, it features a TiAlN/TiN PVD coating that improves wear resistance and extends tool life across a wide range of workpiece materials. The insert follows the 16ER style geometry with a 60-degree included angle and a 3/8 inch inscribed circle. It is installed in compatible laydown threading toolholders and is used by machinists and turning specialists performing external ISO threading operations on CNC and manual lathes.
This insert is suited for universal workpiece materials, covering cast iron, steel, non-ferrous metals, heat-resistant alloys, and stainless steel, corresponding to material codes K, M, N, P, and S. It fits into the Snap-Tap series toolholder system and is configured for right-hand cutting. Typical applications include production threading, repair threading, and general-purpose external ISO thread generation in job shop and manufacturing environments.
Designed for use with 16ER-style laydown threading toolholders compatible with the Snap-Tap series. Suitable for external ISO threading applications across universal workpiece material categories K, M, N, P, and S.
Installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer's clamping and torque procedures. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing the insert. Verify insert orientation and seating fully in the pocket before engaging the workpiece. Follow ISO threading standards and applicable shop safety protocols during setup.
