The SECO 00049535 is a laydown threading insert designed for external thread cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built from solid carbide micrograin substrate in the CP500 grade, it carries a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating that extends tool life across a broad range of workpiece materials. The insert follows a left-hand, partial-profile 60-degree included angle geometry suited to unified and metric thread forms. It covers a thread pitch range of 48 to 8 TPI (0.50 to 3.00 mm pitch) and seats into standard 16EL toolholders. Thickness is 0.1366 inches and the inscribed circle measures 3/8 inch (0.3750 inches). Installation and setup are handled by machinists and CNC tooling technicians.
This insert fits general-purpose external threading operations in production and job-shop turning environments. The CP500 grade with universal material code classification (K, M, P, S) makes it suitable for steel, stainless, cast iron, and high-temperature alloys. The G1 chipbreaker geometry is part of the SECO Snap Tap series and is optimized for consistent chip control during single-point threading passes. It is sold individually per package with a minimum order quantity of 2 pieces.
Designed for use in 16EL-style external threading toolholders. Compatible with ISO-standard Snap Tap series tooling systems accepting a 3/8 inch inscribed circle laydown threading insert.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed with the machine powered down and the spindle locked. Use the torque specifications provided by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the clamping screw. Inspect the insert seat and clamping pocket for chips or debris before seating the insert. Verify left-hand orientation matches the intended thread direction and toolholder configuration before starting the program.
