The SECO 00048854 is a solid carbide cutoff insert designed for parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured to the Series 150.10 standard, this single-end insert carries a CP600 manufacturer grade with a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating that improves wear resistance and extends tool life across a broad range of workpiece materials. The cutting width measures 0.122 inches, the overall length is 0.354 inches, and the corner radius is 0.008 inches. A neutral lead angle and zero relief angle make this insert suitable for straight plunge cutoff work. The insert is held in place by a mechanical clamp system.
This insert is rated for universal primary workpiece material (material code O, material grade C5), making it applicable across a wide range of metals in both production and job-shop environments. It is suited to residential and commercial machine shops, aerospace subcontractors, and general metalworking operations where consistent cutoff geometry and tight width tolerances are required. The chipbreaker designation is 16. Width tolerance is held to 0.003 inches, supporting precise part separation without secondary finishing in many applications.
Designed for use with Series 150.10 cutoff and grooving toolholders that accept the size code 3 insert format with a clamp-style holding method.
Insert installation and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine spindle stopped and the machine placed in a locked-out, de-energized state per applicable lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate torx or hex key at the manufacturer-specified seating method for clamp-style toolholders to secure the insert without over-tightening. Inspect the insert pocket and clamp for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Do not use damaged or chipped inserts, as tool failure during operation presents a safety hazard.
