The SECO 00040684 is a solid carbide, uncoated turning insert in the DNMG432-MR4 series, designed for precision metal-cutting operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a 55-degree diamond insert shape (Shape Code D), a neutral hand orientation, and a negative rake geometry with a T-Land cutting edge style. The inscribed circle measures 0.5 inches, the corner radius is 0.0315 inches (1/32 inch), and insert thickness is 0.1874 inches. With four available cutting edges and an MR4 chip breaker, this insert delivers controlled chip formation across a range of turning applications.
This insert is primarily engineered for machining superalloys and titanium (ISO Material Code S), with secondary suitability for stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous materials, and hardened materials (Material Codes M, K, N, H). Applicable operations include turning, facing, boring, and back turning. It conforms to ANSI and ISO standards and carries the ISO designation DNMG150408-MR4. The insert is held via clamp, pin, or lever-lock toolholding systems and supports a maximum depth of cut of 0.5787 inches. Sold individually; minimum order quantity is 10 units.
Designed for use in DNMG-series toolholders that accept a 55-degree diamond insert with a 0.2028-inch hole diameter, lever-lock, pin, or clamp retention. Suitable for turning, facing, boring, and back-turning operations on superalloys, titanium, stainless steel, cast iron, and non-ferrous workpiece materials as specified by SECO material grades S10, S20, and S30.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician using a compatible DNMG-series toolholder. Before indexing or replacing inserts, ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe, locked-out state. Seat the insert fully against the toolholder pocket and secure with the appropriate clamp, pin, or lever-lock mechanism per the toolholder manufacturer's specifications. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surfaces for chips or debris before installation to prevent insert rocking or premature edge failure.
