The SECO 00039761 is a solid carbide turning insert in the TNMG322-M5 series, designed for general-purpose metal cutting on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a manufacturer grade of TP40 and features a multilayer CVD coating — TiC, TiCN, and TiN applied in sequence — to resist wear and extend tool life during interrupted and continuous cuts. The insert has a triangular shape with a 60-degree included angle, a 3/8-inch inscribed circle, and a 1/32-inch corner radius. Cutting edges are chamfered and honed for controlled entry and edge integrity. This insert is used by machinists and CNC operators working in production turning, facing, boring, and back-turning operations.
The 00039761 is suited for turning steel and stainless steel (ISO material codes P and M), covering grade ranges P40, M35, and M40. The M5 chip breaker geometry is designed for medium-duty cutting conditions where chip control and surface finish consistency are both priorities. It is a neutral-hand insert, making it adaptable across standard TNMG toolholders without handedness restrictions. Typical applications include OD turning, facing passes, and boring on general manufacturing components in job shop and production environments. Designed for use in TNMG-style toolholders accepting clamp, pin, or lever-lock holding methods with a 0.15-inch hole diameter. Compatible with ISO code TNMG160308-M5 and industry standard number TNMG322-M5 toolholder seats. Conforms to ANSI and ISO insert standards.
Installation is performed by CNC machinists or toolroom technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and manufacturer-specified clamping hardware for TNMG lever-lock, pin, or clamp-style holders — do not overtighten the clamping screw by feel alone. Inspect the seat pocket and shim for chips or debris before seating a new insert, as contamination in the pocket affects edge runout and surface finish.
