The SECO 00038467 is a solid carbide multi-directional turning insert in the LCGA insert style, part of the MDT series. Manufactured from micrograin solid carbide in the CP500 grade with a PVD coating, this insert is engineered for precision turning and grooving operations across a broad range of workpiece materials. It features a neutral hand orientation with an FG chipbreaker geometry and a 7-degree relief angle. With a maximum cutting width of 0.118 inches (3.00 mm) and a maximum depth of cut of 0.488 inches (12.40 mm), it is suited for productive metal-removal passes in production turning environments. Licensed machinists and CNC lathe operators are the primary users.
This insert is applied in CNC and manual turning operations on lathes where multi-directional cutting capability is required. The double-end configuration extends usable tool life by offering two cutting edges per insert. The CP500 grade with PVD coating supports cutting in steel, stainless, cast iron, non-ferrous, and superalloy workpiece materials, as indicated by primary workpiece material codes P, M, K, N, H, and S. It is well suited for finish and semi-finish turning, grooving, and parting applications in general-purpose and production machining shops.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or standard supply insert for SECO MDT series toolholders accepting LCGA-style inserts with insert size code 130302.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC toolroom technicians. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the machine locked out before changing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and insert clamp hardware specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten the clamping screw, as this can fracture the carbide substrate. Verify insert seating and clamp engagement before resuming cutting operations.
