The SECO 00029838 is a solid carbide multi-directional turning insert in the MDT series, designed for external grooving and turning operations on CNC lathes. It carries a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating over a micrograin carbide substrate in manufacturer grade CP500. The insert is double-ended and neutral-handed, with a maximum cutting width of 0.236 inches, a cutting height of 0.177 inches, and a corner radius of 0.016 inches. Insert length is 0.630 inches. The LCMF style with MC chipbreaker geometry suits medium-stock-removal passes across a broad range of workpiece materials. Licensed machinists and CNC turning specialists are the primary installers of this tooling.
This insert is suited for use across a wide spectrum of workpiece materials, including hardened steels (H), cast iron (K), stainless steels (M), non-ferrous materials (N), carbon and alloy steels (P), and heat-resistant superalloys (S). Its double-ended design doubles the usable cutting edges per insert, making it well-suited for high-production turning environments where insert change frequency and cost-per-edge are key concerns. Typical applications include longitudinal turning, profiling, and grooving on horizontal and vertical CNC turning centers.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-fit insert for MDT series multi-directional turning toolholders accepting LCMF160604 style inserts. Refer to the toolholder manufacturer specifications to confirm seat and clamping compatibility before installation.
This insert is installed and changed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Always power down the machine spindle and engage the machine lockout/tagout procedure before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamp screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide insert. Inspect the toolholder seat for chips or debris before seating the new insert to ensure proper contact and runout.
