The SECO 00016837 is a solid carbide multi-directional turning (MDT) insert designed for precision external and internal turning operations. Built to style LCMF1603M0-0300-MP, this double-ended insert features a micrograin carbide substrate and a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating in the CP500 grade. The full-radius geometry and MP chipbreaker deliver consistent chip control across a broad range of workpiece materials. With a 0.118-inch maximum cutting width and a 0.059-inch corner radius, it is well suited for grooving, turning, and multi-directional cutting paths. Machinists and CNC programmers in production shops install this insert in compatible MDT toolholders for high-efficiency finishing and light roughing passes.
This insert applies to a wide range of workpiece materials, including hardened steels (H), cast irons (K), stainless steels (M), non-ferrous metals (N), carbon and alloy steels (P), and heat-resistant superalloys (S). The neutral hand orientation makes it suitable for both right-hand and left-hand cutting directions without a dedicated toolholder change. It is used in CNC turning centers and live-tool lathes in both job-shop and high-volume production environments where a single insert must handle multiple material families.
Designed for use in MDT series toolholders accepting LCMF-style inserts. Compatible workpiece material codes include H, K, M, N, P, and S per ISO material group classification. Consult toolholder documentation for exact pocket and clamping specifications.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine in a full stop, lockout/tagout state. Seat the insert fully into the toolholder pocket and verify clamping torque per the toolholder manufacturer specification before resuming operation. Do not use damaged or chipped inserts, as irregular geometry will affect surface finish and dimensional accuracy. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before each index.
