The SECO 00016829 is a solid carbide multi-directional turning insert designed for grooving and turning operations in CNC machining environments. Built to the LCMF insert style in the MDT (Multi-Directional Turning) series, it features a TiAlN/TiN PVD coating applied over a micrograin solid carbide substrate in manufacturer grade CP500. The insert carries a 0.118-inch maximum cutting width, a 0.177-inch cutting height, and a 0.016-inch corner radius. It is double-ended and neutral-hand, making it adaptable for a range of machine configurations. Installation and use are handled by machinists and CNC operators in production or job-shop settings.
This insert is suited for multi-directional turning applications where versatility across workpiece material types is required. The CP500 grade with FT chipbreaker geometry supports cutting across a broad range of material codes including steel (P), stainless (M), cast iron (K), non-ferrous (N), hardened materials (H), and superalloys (S). It is commonly used in external and internal profiling, face grooving, and axial turning on CNC lathes and turning centers.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement insert for MDT series multi-directional turning toolholders accepting LCMF-style inserts. Compatible workpiece material codes include H, K, M, N, P, and S as specified by the manufacturer.
This insert is installed and replaced by machinists or CNC operators following standard insert-change procedures. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before handling inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and clamping screw specified by the toolholder manufacturer — do not over-torque the clamping screw. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the new insert.
