The SECO 00016818 is a solid carbide multi-directional turning insert designed for precision external turning and profiling operations on CNC lathes. Running a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating over a micrograin carbide substrate, this insert carries SECO grade CP500 and is built for consistent performance across a wide range of workpiece materials. It features a neutral hand orientation with a double-ended design, delivering a maximum cutting width of 0.236 inches and a cutting height of 0.177 inches. The 0.031-inch corner radius provides a balance between edge strength and surface finish. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in production turning environments are the primary installers of this insert.
This insert belongs to the SECO MDT (Multi-Directional Turning) series and is suited for both roughing and finishing passes on a broad material range. The CP500 grade and LCMF160608 style are commonly applied in precision shops handling steel, cast iron, stainless steel, non-ferrous alloys, high-temperature alloys, and hardened materials, as indicated by primary workpiece material codes P, M, K, N, S, and H. The FT chipbreaker geometry supports controlled chip evacuation in moderate to high feed rate conditions. The double-end configuration extends usable insert life per unit.
The SECO 00016818 follows the LCMF160608-0600-FT style designation and is designed for use in compatible SECO MDT series toolholders that accept LCMF160608 inserts. Confirm toolholder seat geometry and clamping style before installation.
Insert seating and replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician with the machine fully powered down and spindle locked. Use the appropriate torx or hex key torque driver as specified by the toolholder manufacturer for clamping screws. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping components for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Never mix insert grades or styles within a multi-insert tool body without verifying compatibility with the toolholder specification sheet.
