The SECO 00016738 is a solid carbide multi-directional turning insert designed for high-performance grooving and turning operations. Built to LCMF1604M0-0400-MP style specifications, this double-ended, neutral-hand insert features a TiAlN/TiN PVD coating applied over a micrograin carbide substrate in the CP500 grade. It carries a 0.157-inch maximum cutting width, a 0.177-inch cutting height, and a 0.079-inch full corner radius. The MP chipbreaker geometry controls chip flow across a wide range of workpiece materials. This insert is typically installed by CNC machinists and tool-and-die professionals running turning or grooving operations on machining centers and lathes.
This insert is suited for use across multiple workpiece material categories, including hardened materials (H), cast iron (K), stainless steel (M), non-ferrous materials (N), carbon and alloy steels (P), and heat-resistant superalloys (S). Its neutral hand orientation and double-ended design make it adaptable to MDT-series toolholders in both roughing and finishing scenarios where consistent chip control and edge integrity are required across varied material types.
Designed for use in MDT-series toolholders accepting LCMF-style inserts, size code 1604M0. Compatible workpiece material groups include H, K, M, N, P, and S per ISO classification.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists following standard CNC toolholder clamping procedures. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or replacing inserts. Use a calibrated torque wrench appropriate for the toolholder manufacturer's specified clamping screw to avoid insert fracture or seat damage. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping surfaces for chips or debris before seating a new insert.
