The SECO 00016227 is a multi-directional turning (MDT) insert engineered for precision turning and profiling operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Built from micrograin solid carbide in manufacturer grade CP500, this single-end, neutral-hand insert carries a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiN coating that extends tool life across a broad range of workpiece materials. The LCMR insert style features a full corner radius, a maximum cutting width of 0.315 inches, a cutting height of 0.216 inches, a corner radius of 0.157 inches, and an insert length of 1.183 inches. The MP chipbreaker geometry promotes efficient chip control during medium-duty turning passes. Installed by machinists and CNC tooling specialists, this insert is a direct drop-in for MDT-series toolholders.
The 00016227 is suited for multi-directional turning applications in both production and job-shop environments. Its neutral hand orientation allows use in both left- and right-hand cutting directions without retooling. The CP500 grade with PVD coating supports cutting in a wide range of workpiece material categories including cast iron, non-ferrous alloys, general steels, stainless steels, heat-resistant superalloys, and hardened materials, corresponding to ISO material codes H, K, M, N, P, and S. The MDT series design enables axial, radial, and ramping cuts from a single insert geometry, reducing the number of tools required per setup.
Designed for use in MDT-series toolholders accepting the LCMR3008M0-0800-MP insert style. Verify toolholder pocket specifications before installation to confirm seat geometry and clamping method match this insert style and size code 3008M0.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer's specified torque procedure. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Inspect the toolholder pocket and seat for chips or debris before seating the insert, as contamination can cause improper seating and premature edge failure. Follow shop safety protocols and applicable OSHA machine guarding requirements during all tooling changes.
