The SECO 00005963 is a solid carbide milling insert carrying ANSI and ISO designation XOMX120404TR-ME08 in manufacturer grade F40M. It features a parallelogram shape with a 90-degree included angle, a positive rake geometry of 20.1 degrees, and a T-Land cutting edge style. The insert is PVD-coated with TiAlN and TiN layers for thermal resistance and edge durability in interrupted and continuous milling operations. Two cutting edges are available on this single-sided, right-hand insert. A corner radius of 0.0157 inches and the ME08 chip breaker geometry make it well suited for controlled chip formation across a range of workpiece materials. Installation is handled by screw-type insert holding.
This insert is designed for milling applications on steel, stainless steel, cast iron, non-ferrous metals, superalloys, and titanium. Primary workpiece material codes are P, K, and S. Secondary material codes are K and N. Typical use cases include face milling, shoulder milling, and high-feed operations where positive rake and a reinforced T-Land edge reduce cutting forces and improve tool life. The fine-grain carbide substrate supports consistent performance across both roughing and semi-finishing passes in production and maintenance machining environments.
Compatible with SECO cutter series R217.69-12 and R220.69-12 as stated by the manufacturer. Insert size code is 120404 within the XOMX-12 series.
Milling insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine powered down and spindle locked. Use the appropriate Torx or hex key for the clamping screw specified by the cutter body manufacturer — do not overtighten, as this can fracture the carbide insert. Inspect the insert pocket seat and clamping screw for wear or debris before seating a new insert. Verify insert orientation matches the right-hand designation before resuming operation.
