The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS TMX440-14-HC is a solid carbide helical flute thread mill designed for cutting NPT threads in both internal and external applications. Built from submicron-grade carbide and finished with a TiN coating, it delivers consistent thread geometry and extended tool life in production and job-shop environments. The cutter runs 14 teeth per inch (TPI) with a 0.44-inch cutting diameter and a 0.89-inch length of cut, making it well-suited for threading pipe-thread forms in a single helical pass. Machinists and toolroom technicians operating CNC machining centers are the primary users of this tool.
This thread mill handles both 1/2-14 NPT and 3/4-14 NPT thread sizes from a single tool, reducing tool changes and simplifying setup on multi-size pipe-thread jobs. The right-hand flute direction and four-flute geometry support smooth chip evacuation and stable cutting action in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The 1/2-inch shank diameter fits standard ER or precision collet holders commonly used on CNC milling machines. It is appropriate for use in both production runs and prototype work where NPT pipe thread accuracy is required.
Designed for use on CNC machining centers capable of helical interpolation; cuts 1/2-14 NPT and 3/4-14 NPT thread forms in internal and external configurations using a 1/2-inch shank collet or milling chuck.
Thread milling requires a CNC control capable of helical interpolation - confirm control compatibility before programming. Secure the 1/2-inch shank in a balanced, runout-minimized collet holder and verify tool projection matches the required length of cut. Establish correct climb or conventional milling direction per the CAM program and workpiece material. Do not use this tool in manual milling machines or applications that cannot execute circular interpolation with simultaneous Z-axis movement.
