The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS TMLR370-20ELA is a helical flute thread mill designed for cutting internal 1/2-20 UNF threads in demanding machining environments. Built from submicron-grade solid carbide and coated with AlTiN+, this tool delivers high wear resistance and thermal stability at elevated cutting speeds. With a 3-flute, right-hand helix design and a long-reach configuration, it produces clean, accurate threads in a single helical interpolation pass. The 0.37-inch cutting diameter and 1.2-inch length of cut make it well-suited for threading operations where tool rigidity and reach are both critical factors. Licensed machinists and CNC operators in precision manufacturing and metalworking shops are the primary users.
This thread mill is used for internal UNF thread milling on CNC machining centers capable of helical interpolation. It is suited for production and job-shop environments machining ferrous and non-ferrous alloys where a single tool must handle thread sizing and finishing in one operation. The long-reach design accommodates deeper bores or setups where a standard-reach tool cannot achieve the required depth without interference. The 3/8-inch shank diameter provides a secure grip in standard collet or end mill holders.
Designed for CNC machining centers capable of helical interpolation, used to produce internal 1/2-20 UNF threads. Requires a 3/8-inch collet or end mill holder for proper shank retention.
Installation and operation should be performed by qualified CNC machinists or tooling technicians. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a safe state before loading or unloading the tool. Verify collet size matches the 3/8-inch shank before torquing the holder to the manufacturer-specified value. Program helical interpolation parameters according to the thread pitch and cutting diameter before starting the operation - do not use this tool in a conventional tapping cycle.
