The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS TMLR370-18ELA is a helical flute thread mill designed for cutting internal 1/2-18 UNS threads in a CNC machining environment. Built from submicron-grade solid carbide and coated with AlTiN+, this tool delivers heat resistance and edge retention in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. With a 0.37-inch cutting diameter, 1.2-inch length of cut, and three right-hand flutes, it is engineered for long-reach internal threading applications where rigidity and precision thread form are critical. Machinists and CNC programmers working in job shop, aerospace, or industrial production environments will find this tool suited to tight-tolerance internal thread work.
This thread mill is configured for internal threading at 18 teeth per inch on a 1/2-18 UNS thread standard. The long-reach design accommodates deeper bores without requiring a change in tooling strategy. With a 3/8-inch shank diameter and 3.5-inch overall length, it fits standard ER or shrink-fit collet systems commonly found on VMCs and HMCs. Right-hand flute direction supports conventional climb-milling thread paths as programmed in CAM software. No coolant-through capability means external coolant or mist is used at the spindle.
Designed for internal 1/2-18 UNS thread milling operations on CNC machining centers using standard collet or shrink-fit toolholders with a 3/8-inch bore.
Thread mills must be installed and balanced in an appropriate toolholder by a qualified CNC machinist before use. Confirm runout at the cutting diameter before starting the program, as excess runout degrades thread form and accelerates tool wear. External coolant or mist should be directed at the cutting zone since this tool does not have coolant-through capability. Always verify the thread mill path and helix direction in CAM simulation before cutting a live part.
