The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS TMLR234-32ELA is a helical flute thread mill designed for cutting internal 5/16-32 UNEF threads in a CNC machining environment. Built from submicron-grade solid carbide and coated with AlTiN+, it delivers the hardness and heat resistance needed for threading ferrous and hardened materials. The tool features a 0.234-inch cutting diameter, a 0.85-inch length of cut, and a 2.5-inch overall length, making it well suited for long-reach threading applications where standard-length tools cannot access a bore. Three right-hand helical flutes provide efficient chip evacuation during the threading pass.
This thread mill is used in precision machining applications requiring UNEF internal threads at 32 teeth per inch. It is intended for use on CNC machining centers where the tool path interpolates the thread form in a single helical pass. Typical applications include aerospace components, hydraulic fittings, instrumentation housings, and other close-tolerance work where UNEF thread forms are specified. The long-reach geometry allows threading in recessed bores or deep features that restrict toolholder clearance. Coolant-through is not supported, so flood or mist coolant applied externally at the cutting zone is the standard approach.
Designed as an OEM-style thread milling solution for CNC machining centers capable of helical interpolation and programmed to cut 5/16-32 UNEF internal thread forms.
Thread mills of this type are installed and torqued into a collet chuck or end mill holder on a CNC machining center by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Confirm runout at the cutting diameter before production use, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear and degrades thread quality. Program the helical interpolation path to the correct minor diameter and pitch before cutting; verify the program on a test piece before committing to a finished workpiece. Handle solid carbide tooling carefully to avoid edge chipping during setup and storage.
