The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS TMLR082-40ELA is a helical flute thread mill designed for cutting internal 4-40 UNC threads in a CNC machining environment. Built from submicron-grade solid carbide and finished with an AlTiN+ coating, this tool delivers consistent thread geometry and extended tool life in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The 0.082-inch cutting diameter and 0.3-inch length of cut make it well suited for small-diameter internal threading where tap breakage is a concern. With a 2.5-inch overall length and long-reach configuration, it accesses threads in recessed features without requiring a secondary reach extension.
This thread mill is used in production and job-shop CNC milling operations wherever precise 4-40 UNC internal threads are required. The long-reach design is particularly useful for aerospace, medical device, and precision instrument components that require threaded holes in deep cavities or stepped bores. The right-hand flute direction and 40 TPI specification align with standard UNC 4-40 fastener requirements. It is installed and run by machinists and CNC programmers operating 3-axis or higher machining centers capable of helical interpolation.
Designed for use on CNC machining centers capable of helical interpolation to produce 4-40 UNC internal threads. Thread form and pitch are consistent with standard UNC 4-40 fastener specifications.
This tool is installed and operated by machinists or CNC programmers on a machining center with helical interpolation capability. Secure the 1/4-inch shank in a precision collet or end mill holder and verify runout before threading operations. Program the helical interpolation path to match the 4-40 UNC thread pitch and cutting diameter. Coolant-through is not supported on this tool, so ensure adequate flood or mist coolant is directed at the cutting zone during operation.
