The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS TM345-28A is a straight flute internal thread mill designed for cutting 7/16-28 UNEF threads in a single helical pass. Built from submicron-grade solid carbide and finished with an AlTiN+ coating, this tool handles the heat and abrasion demands of production threading in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. With 4 flutes, a 0.345-inch cutting diameter, and a 0.8-inch length of cut, it is sized for typical fastener and instrument-thread applications where fine-pitch internal threads are required. Machinists and toolroom professionals on CNC machining centers are the primary users of this tool.
This thread mill is suited for internal UNEF threading operations on machining centers running helical interpolation cycles. The 3/8-inch shank diameter fits standard ER and shrink-fit toolholders common in CNC mill setups. A 3.5-inch overall length provides clearance for moderate-depth bores without requiring an extended-reach variant. The straight flute geometry and 28 TPI pitch make this tool appropriate for fine-thread applications in aerospace, hydraulic fittings, instrumentation, and precision mechanical assemblies where UNEF thread callouts are specified.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers capable of helical interpolation for cutting 7/16-28 UNEF internal threads. The 3/8-inch shank fits standard ER collet chucks and shrink-fit holders sized for that diameter.
Installation and operation of this thread mill should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC programmer familiar with helical interpolation threading cycles. Secure the shank fully in a balanced, runout-tested toolholder before use, and verify spindle RPM and feed rate against the manufacturer's recommended cutting data for the workpiece material. Ensure the machine tool is at a complete stop and the spindle is locked before changing or inspecting the tool. Do not use this tool in a manual mill or drill press, as helical interpolation requires coordinated CNC axis control.
