The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS TM345-20H is a solid carbide helical flute thread mill designed for cutting 7/16-20 UNF threads in both internal and external applications. Built from submicron-grade carbide, it delivers the rigidity and wear resistance required for precision threading on hardened and difficult-to-machine materials. The tool runs four right-hand flutes with a 0.345-inch cutting diameter and a 0.82-inch length of cut, making it well suited for shallow-to-moderate thread depth requirements in production and job-shop environments. Machinists and CNC operators rely on this style of thread mill when a single tool must handle both internal bores and external thread profiles without a tool change.
This thread mill is used in CNC machining centers running helical interpolation programs. It fits applications where standard taps are impractical, such as blind holes with minimal thread runout clearance, materials prone to tap breakage, or setups requiring a single tool to cover a range of thread depths. The 3/8-inch shank diameter accommodates standard end-mill holders and collet chucks found on most vertical and horizontal machining centers. At 3.5 inches overall length, it provides adequate reach for most workpiece fixturing configurations without excessive overhang.
Designed for use on CNC machining centers capable of helical interpolation, compatible with any machine tool accepting a 3/8-inch straight shank via collet or end-mill holder for 7/16-20 UNF thread milling operations.
Installation and operation should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or tooling technician. Secure the shank fully in a balanced collet chuck or end-mill holder and verify runout before cutting. Always confirm the CNC program uses the correct helical interpolation cutter compensation offset for the 0.345-inch cutting diameter. Inspect the tool for chipping or wear before each production run and replace at the first sign of edge degradation to maintain thread quality.
