The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS TM115-32N is a straight flute thread mill designed for cutting internal UNC threads from size 8 to 32 TPI. Built from powdered metal and finished with a TiCN coating, this tool delivers wear resistance and edge retention across a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The 3-flute geometry produces clean thread forms in a single helical pass. With a 0.115 inch cutting diameter, a 0.325 inch length of cut, and a 2.5 inch overall length, the TM115-32N fits standard CNC machining centers with a 1/4 inch shank connection. Licensed machinists and CNC operators use this tool in production and job-shop environments where tap breakage risk or blind-hole access are concerns.
This thread mill is suited for internal threading operations in materials where a straight flute geometry provides adequate chip clearance and process stability. The 8 to 32 UNC specification makes it applicable to fastener holes in light mechanical assemblies, enclosures, fixtures, and instrumentation components. No coolant-through feature is present, so external flood or mist coolant is the standard approach. The 1/4 inch shank accepts standard ER collet chucks and other common CNC toolholding systems used in vertical and horizontal machining centers.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use thread mill for CNC machining centers equipped with 1/4 inch shank toolholding systems capable of helical interpolation for internal UNC thread milling applications.
Thread milling requires a CNC machine capable of helical interpolation - confirm controller support before setup. Secure the 1/4 inch shank in a balanced, precision collet or toolholder to minimize runout, which directly affects thread quality. Apply external flood or mist coolant directed at the cutting zone, as this tool does not have coolant-through capability. Inspect the cutting edges before use and discard the tool at the first sign of chipping or coating wear to avoid thread form errors.
