The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS TM 435-14NPT is a straight flute thread mill designed to cut NPT-standard threads in both external and internal applications. Built from submicron-grade solid carbide with a bright finish, it runs 4 flutes at 14 teeth per inch (TPI) and produces 1/2-14 and 3/4-14 NPT thread forms in a single tool. The 0.435-inch cutting diameter and 1.034-inch length of cut make it well suited for threading pipe-fitting bores and external pipe ends where NPT taper thread profiles are required. Licensed machinists and CNC programmers working in plumbing, hydraulic, and industrial fitting applications rely on this class of tool for accurate thread geometry and consistent finish.
This thread mill is used in CNC machining centers running helical interpolation routines to generate NPT pipe threads. It handles both 1/2-14 NPT and 3/4-14 NPT thread sizes, giving shops the flexibility to thread two common pipe sizes with one tool. Typical applications include threading manifold bodies, valve housings, fittings, and pipe adapters in steel, stainless, aluminum, and similar machinable materials. The staggered tooth geometry and submicron carbide grade support reliable cutting across a range of workpiece hardnesses.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers capable of helical interpolation to produce 1/2-14 NPT and 3/4-14 NPT external and internal pipe threads per NPT thread standard.
This tool is installed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician into a compatible collet or toolholder matched to the 1/2-inch shank diameter. Confirm machine spindle speed, feed rate, and helical interpolation parameters against the tool manufacturer's recommendations before cutting. Secure workpiece fixturing fully before engaging the thread mill to prevent deflection and thread-form error. Inspect the tool edge condition before each run, as carbide thread mills are sensitive to chipping from interrupted cuts or improper entry moves.
