The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS SPTM745LA is a solid carbide single profile thread mill designed to cut both internal and external threads across a range of 4 to 8 TPI. It handles thread sizes from 1-1/4-4 through 1-1/4-8 in a single tool, eliminating the need for multiple thread mills across that TPI range. The cutting diameter is 0.745 inches, the shank diameter is 3/4 inches, and the overall length is 5 inches. The tool carries an AlTiN+ coating and is manufactured from submicron-grade solid carbide stock. Six flutes deliver chip clearance and surface finish quality suited to production threading on machining centers.
This thread mill is used in CNC machining center applications for threading operations on ferrous and non-ferrous workpieces where a single tool must handle multiple TPI values within the 1-1/4 thread diameter range. It is appropriate for both through-hole and blind-hole internal threads as well as external thread forms, making it a practical choice for job shops, production machining, and toolroom work requiring flexibility across the 4 to 8 TPI band in larger thread diameters.
Designed as a single profile thread mill for CNC machining center use on 1-1/4-4 through 1-1/4-8 thread sizes, compatible with standard 3/4-inch toolholders including end mill holders, shrink-fit holders, and collet chucks.
Installation and operation require a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom professional programming thread milling canned cycles or helical interpolation routines on a 3-axis or higher machining center. Confirm toolholder runout is within acceptable limits before threading operations, as runout directly affects thread quality and tool life. Always verify spindle speed, feed rate, and helical pitch settings against the thread specification before cutting. Secure workholding and rigid fixturing are essential when thread milling larger diameter threads in this TPI range.
