The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS SPTM160LA is a single profile thread mill engineered for cutting both internal and external threads across a range from 12-24 to 12-56, covering 24 to 56 TPI. Built from submicron-grade solid carbide, it delivers the rigidity and wear resistance required for precision threading operations in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. The tool features a 0.16-inch cutting diameter, a 3/16-inch shank diameter, and a 2-inch overall length. An AlTiN+ coating reduces friction and extends tool life in high-temperature cutting environments. With 3 flutes and a 0.088-inch neck diameter, this tool is suited for close-tolerance thread milling on CNC machining centers.
This thread mill is appropriate for job shops, production machining operations, and toolroom applications requiring a single tool capable of producing a wide range of thread sizes. Its single profile design allows the operator to produce any thread pitch within the specified TPI range using programmed helical interpolation, reducing tooling inventory requirements. Typical applications include threading operations on aluminum, steel, stainless steel, and similar materials where thread integrity and dimensional accuracy are critical.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers capable of helical interpolation; fits standard 3/16-inch collet or toolholder systems. Produces threads in the 12-24 to 12-56 size range, 24 to 56 TPI, in both internal and external configurations.
Installation and operation should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or tooling technician. Secure the 3/16-inch shank in a properly sized collet or end mill holder, ensuring adequate clamping force to prevent pullout during helical interpolation. Verify spindle runout before use, as excess runout will directly affect thread quality and tool life. Always reference the applicable thread milling G-code cycle parameters and confirm depth-of-cut and feed rate settings before engaging the workpiece.
