The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS SPTM138A is a single profile thread mill designed for cutting both internal and external threads across a range from 10-24 to 10-56, covering 24 to 56 TPI. Built from submicron-grade solid carbide and coated with AlTiN+, it delivers consistent thread geometry in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. With 3 flutes and a 0.138-inch cutting diameter, it produces clean thread profiles in a single helical pass. The 0.075-inch neck diameter provides clearance in tight bores, making it well suited for precision thread milling on CNC machining centers. Installed by machinist and tooling professionals, this tool is optimized for accuracy and tool life in production environments.
The SPTM138A is suited for thread milling applications requiring coverage of multiple thread pitches with a single tool, reducing the need for dedicated taps across the 24 to 56 TPI range. It handles both internal thread milling in through or blind holes and external thread milling on bosses and studs. The AlTiN+ coating supports performance in harder materials and elevated cutting temperatures. It is a practical choice for shops running small-diameter threading operations on CNC mills with helical interpolation capability.
Designed for use in CNC machining centers capable of helical interpolation; suitable for threading applications requiring 10-24 to 10-56 thread sizes at 24 to 56 TPI in internal or external configurations.
This tool is installed and operated by qualified CNC machinists and tooling professionals. Secure the shank firmly in a collet or end mill holder rated for the 3/16-inch shank diameter before use. Program helical interpolation passes according to the target thread pitch and diameter; do not run this tool as a conventional tap. Verify spindle speed and feed rate against the manufacturer cutting data for the workpiece material and coating type before beginning any threading operation.
