The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS SAEJ1926-04S is a carbide-tipped porting tool designed to machine SAE J1926 and MS16142 straight-thread O-ring boss (ORB) ports on hydraulic and fluid-system fittings and manifolds. It combines a spotface and pilot in a single operation, producing a flat seating surface and a properly sized port throat in one pass. The spotface diameter measures 0.838 inches, the port thread size is 7/16-20 UNF, and the tool accepts a 1/4-inch tube OD (Tube Dash 4). Three straight flutes and a carbide-tipped cutting head deliver consistent results on steel, aluminum, and other common workpiece materials. This tool is installed by hydraulic system technicians, maintenance machinists, and plumbing fabricators working on fluid-power or high-pressure tubing assemblies.
This porting tool is suited for tube and fitting work where SAE J1926 or MS16142 port specifications are required. It is used in production and repair environments when cutting or refacing ORB port seats on hydraulic manifolds, cylinder heads, valve bodies, and tubing adapters. The plain pilot style and straight shank allow use in standard drill presses, milling machines, and CNC machining centers. The 12-degree seal angle matches the flat-bottom port geometry specified under the SAE J1926 standard for straight-thread fittings.
Designed for machining SAE J1926 and MS16142 straight-thread O-ring boss ports with a 7/16-20 UNF thread size and 1/4-inch tube OD (Tube Dash 4) on tubes and fluid-power components.
This tool is intended for use by machinists and hydraulic technicians in machine-shop or field-repair settings. Before porting, depressurize and isolate the hydraulic or fluid circuit completely. Secure the workpiece firmly and ensure the pilot engages the bore squarely before applying feed pressure to avoid chatter or misalignment. Follow the machinery manufacturer feed and speed recommendations for carbide tooling on the workpiece material being machined.
