The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS HB150A is a helical boring bar designed for precision internal turning and boring operations in tight-diameter applications. Machined from submicron-grade solid carbide and finished with an AlTiN+ coating, this bar delivers hardness and thermal resistance suited to dry and high-speed cutting conditions. It features a right-hand cutting direction and a minimum bore diameter of 0.15 inches, making it suitable for small-bore work where rigidity and concentricity are critical. The 3/16-inch shank diameter keeps the tool compact while maintaining the stiffness needed to control chatter in deep-bore passes.
The HB150A is intended for use in CNC lathes, turning centers, and manual lathes equipped with appropriate boring bar toolholders. It is a fit for machinists, toolroom operators, and production shops working in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where fine surface finish and tight tolerances on internal diameters are required. The short 1.5-inch overall length suits bench-top and sub-spindle applications where clearance is limited.
Designed for use with standard boring bar toolholders accepting a 3/16-inch shank diameter on CNC lathes and manual turning equipment.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before inserting or removing the boring bar from the toolholder. Ensure the shank is fully seated and clamped to the toolholder manufacturer's specification before beginning any cut. Inspect the AlTiN+ coating and cutting edge for chips or wear prior to each use, as carbide tooling can fail without visible warning if damaged.
