The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS HB020062 is a helical boring bar ground from submicron-grade solid carbide for precision internal turning and bore finishing in small-diameter applications. With a minimum bore diameter of 0.020 inches and a maximum bore depth of 0.0625 inches (1/16 inch), this bar is purpose-built for tight-tolerance work where rigidity and cutting-edge geometry are critical. The 1/8 inch shank diameter and 1.5 inch overall length make it well-suited for use in CNC lathes, Swiss-type screw machines, and small-bore turning centers. Right-hand cutting direction is standard. Submicron carbide grade delivers higher transverse rupture strength and wear resistance compared to standard carbide grades, which matters in hard or abrasive workpiece materials.
This helical boring bar is intended for machinists and tooling engineers working on small precision components such as hydraulic valve bodies, medical device parts, watch components, and instrumentation hardware. It fits applications where bore diameters are too small for indexable tooling and where surface finish and dimensional accuracy are primary requirements. The HB0 series is designed for use in rigid toolholding setups to minimize deflection at these small diameters.
Designed as an OEM-style small-diameter boring bar for use in CNC lathes, Swiss-type turning centers, and similar machine tool setups that accept a 1/8 inch shank with right-hand cutting toolholders.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the toolchanger or turret is locked out before mounting or removing the bar. Use a rigid, properly sized toolholder and minimize shank overhang to reduce deflection at this bore diameter. Avoid side-loading the bar beyond its rated bore depth, as solid carbide is brittle and susceptible to fracture under shock or chatter conditions.
