The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS GT062Q-10A is a solid carbide internal grooving tool designed for cutting retaining ring grooves in bored holes. Built from submicron carbide grade material, it delivers the edge retention and rigidity needed for precise, repeatable groove profiles in production and job-shop environments. The tool features a 1/4-inch shank diameter and an overall length of 2.5 inches, making it suited for compact tooling setups on CNC lathes and boring machines. Right-hand cutting direction is standard. Machinists and toolroom technicians use this tool where consistent groove geometry and tight tolerances are required.
This grooving tool is intended for internal retaining ring groove applications in holes with a minimum diameter of 0.2500 inches. Maximum hole depth capacity is 0.6250 inches (5/8 inch), with a shank length of 1.875 inches providing clearance and stability during the cut. The submicron carbide construction makes it appropriate for use in steel, stainless, aluminum, and other machinable materials where a durable, wear-resistant cutting edge is needed. It is commonly used in precision machining operations where standard insert-style tooling cannot access small-bore geometries.
Designed as a direct-fit internal grooving tool for use in standard 1/4-inch shank tool holders on CNC lathes and manual boring setups requiring retaining ring groove capability in small-diameter bores.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. Secure the 1/4-inch shank in a compatible collet or tool holder with adequate clamping torque per the machine tool manufacturer specifications before engaging the spindle. Ensure the workpiece is fully clamped and the machine is at a complete stop before indexing or removing the tool. Verify bore diameter and depth clearances against tool projection and maximum hole depth ratings before programming the cut.
