The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS GT061-4 is a solid carbide internal grooving tool designed to cut retaining ring grooves in bored holes. Built from submicron carbide grade material, it delivers consistent edge integrity in precision machining applications. The tool features a 0.125-inch shank diameter, an overall length of 1.5 inches, and a groove width of 0.062 inches, making it well-suited for tight-tolerance groove work in small-diameter bores. It cuts in the right-hand direction and provides a projection of 0.04 inches beyond the shank centerline. Machinists and toolroom professionals use this tool in CNC lathes, boring mills, and manual turning centers where retaining ring groove placement must meet close dimensional requirements.
This grooving tool is intended for internal retaining ring groove applications in bores with a minimum hole diameter of 0.12 inches and a maximum hole depth of 0.25 inches. It is suitable for use in production shops, toolrooms, and job shops machining small components that require precision grooves for snap rings or retaining rings. The 1.25-inch shank length provides adequate reach for standard bore depths within its rated capacity. Applications typically include aerospace components, hydraulic fittings, small-bore housings, and precision mechanical assemblies where groove geometry is critical.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or equivalent tooling for standard retaining ring grooving operations in CNC and manual turning applications requiring a 0.125-inch round shank and 0.062-inch groove width.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom personnel. Secure the 0.125-inch shank in a compatible collet or tool holder, ensuring the holder is rated for the shank diameter before applying cutting forces. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before inserting or removing the tool. Avoid side-loading the projection beyond the rated depth of cut, as solid carbide is brittle and susceptible to breakage under lateral impact.
