The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS CBN-B160900 is a CBN-tipped corner radius boring bar designed for precision internal turning and boring operations on hardened materials. With a minimum bore diameter of 0.16 inches and a maximum bore depth of 0.9 inches, this bar is suited for small-diameter, deep-reach applications where standard carbide tooling loses its edge. The 0.004-inch corner radius delivers a tight, controlled profile at the cutting zone. The bright, uncoated finish indicates a ground-to-finish surface with no additional coating that could affect dimensional tolerances. Machinists and toolroom professionals rely on CBN tooling for hard-turning operations on materials that conventional carbide cannot handle efficiently.
This boring bar is used in CNC turning centers and manual lathes for internal finishing passes on hardened steel, cast iron, and similar hard alloys. The right-hand cutting direction suits standard spindle rotation on conventional setups. The 3/16-inch shank diameter and 2-inch overall length make it appropriate for compact toolholders and Swiss-style or small-bore turning applications where clearance is limited. It is typically installed by machinists and precision toolroom technicians working on close-tolerance bores in production or prototype environments.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard fitment for 3/16-inch shank boring bar toolholders used in CNC turning centers and manual lathes performing small-diameter internal turning operations.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with boring bar toolholder setup and CBN tooling requirements. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or removing the boring bar from the toolholder. Secure the 3/16-inch shank firmly in a properly sized toolholder to minimize overhang and reduce chatter, which is critical with CBN tooling. Do not use CBN tips on interrupted cuts or soft, non-ferrous materials where CBN geometry is not appropriate.
