The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS BB72 is a radial relief boring bar designed for precision internal turning and boring operations on small-diameter features. Machined from submicron solid carbide, it delivers the rigidity and edge retention needed for tight-tolerance work in steel, stainless, cast iron, and non-ferrous alloys. The BB72 features a right-hand cutting direction, a minimum bore diameter of 0.075 inches, a maximum bore depth of 0.25 inches, a 0.125-inch shank diameter, and an overall length of 1.5 inches. The uncoated carbide finish suits shops that prefer to apply their own coatings or run the bar as supplied in aluminum and other free-cutting materials.
This boring bar is intended for small-bore finishing and semi-finishing passes on CNC lathes, manual lathes, and mill-turn centers where bore diameters start near 0.075 inches. It is well suited to production shops, tool rooms, and job shops running tight inside-diameter tolerances on small components such as hydraulic valve bodies, medical parts, and precision instrument housings. A licensed machinist or CNC operator familiar with boring bar setup and insert geometry typically handles installation and runout verification.
Designed as an OEM-style solid carbide boring bar for use in standard boring bar holders and tool blocks accepting a 0.125-inch round shank on CNC and manual lathes.
Installation is performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before securing or adjusting the boring bar in its holder. Clamp the shank securely with no more overhang than necessary to reach bore depth, as excess overhang increases deflection in small-diameter carbide bars. Verify runout and tool-nose alignment before initiating a cut.
