The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS BB62A is a radial relief boring bar designed for precision small-bore machining operations. Built from submicron-grade solid carbide and finished with an AlTiN+ coating, this bar delivers the hardness and heat resistance needed for tight-tolerance internal diameter work. It accepts a 1/8 inch shank and reaches a minimum bore diameter of 0.06 inches, making it well suited for micro-bore applications where standard carbide grades fall short. The overall length of 1.5 inches keeps the tool compact and rigid. Right-hand cutting direction is standard. Machinists and toolroom technicians working on CNC lathes or boring mills are the primary users of this tool.
This boring bar is used in precision turning and boring operations requiring small internal diameters. Typical applications include machining watch components, hydraulic valve bodies, medical device parts, and other small-diameter features where dimensional accuracy is critical. The submicron carbide substrate is particularly effective in harder workpiece materials. The AlTiN+ coating extends tool life in dry or semi-dry cutting environments. The right-hand cutting direction suits standard CNC lathe and boring mill setups.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-use boring bar for CNC lathes and boring mills equipped with toolholders accepting a 1/8 inch shank diameter.
Installation and use of this boring bar should be performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians familiar with CNC turning or boring operations. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the control is in an e-stop or locked-out state before changing tooling. Secure the 1/8 inch shank firmly in the toolholder to the holder manufacturer's specified clamping procedure to prevent micro-chatter that can damage the carbide tip. Inspect the cutting edge under magnification before use, as submicron carbide tips are brittle and sensitive to improper handling or impacts.
