The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS BB374 is a radial relief boring bar designed for precision internal diameter machining in tight-bore applications. Constructed from submicron solid carbide, this bar delivers the rigidity and wear resistance required for consistent, repeatable cuts at small diameters. It features a right-hand cutting direction and an uncoated finish, making it well suited to ferrous and non-ferrous materials where coating buildup is a concern. With a minimum bore diameter of 0.373 inches and a 3/8-inch shank diameter, this tool fits standard boring head and toolholder setups common in production and job-shop environments. Machinists and toolroom operators select this bar when surface finish and dimensional accuracy inside bores are critical.
This boring bar is used in CNC lathes, machining centers, and manual lathes where small-diameter internal turning is required. Its 2-inch overall length and 0.5-inch maximum bore depth suit shallow-bore operations typical in component manufacturing, mold work, and precision fixture production. The radial relief geometry reduces tool pressure and helps maintain bore geometry in both interrupted and continuous cutting conditions. It is appropriate for light-duty finish boring passes where carbide rigidity is needed to minimize deflection at small diameters.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard-fit boring bar for toolholders and boring heads accepting a 3/8-inch shank diameter in CNC and manual lathe setups.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with the machine powered down and the spindle locked before securing the bar in the toolholder. Ensure the shank is fully engaged in the holder and properly torqued per the toolholder manufacturer specifications before initiating a cut. Confirm bore depth does not exceed the 0.5-inch maximum to prevent tool deflection or breakage. Handle carbide tooling carefully to avoid chipping the cutting edge during setup.
