The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS BB123 is a radial relief boring bar machined from submicron-grade solid carbide for tight-tolerance internal boring operations. It accepts a minimum bore diameter of 0.12 inches and reaches a maximum bore depth of 0.375 inches, making it well suited for small-diameter work where rigidity and edge retention are critical. The 0.125-inch shank diameter keeps the tool compact, while the 1.5-inch overall length provides enough reach for typical shallow-bore applications. The uncoated carbide surface is standard for applications where coating buildup at the cutting edge would compromise dimensional accuracy. Right-hand cut geometry is the standard orientation for conventional CNC and manual lathe setups.
This boring bar is intended for machinists and toolmakers performing small-diameter internal turning on CNC lathes, manual engine lathes, or mill-turn centers. It is a practical choice for finish-boring precision holes in ferrous and non-ferrous materials where a radial relief profile is required to clear the bore wall. The submicron carbide grade supports higher cutting speeds and longer tool life compared to standard carbide grades, particularly in hardened or abrasive workpiece materials.
Designed as a standard shank boring bar for use in tool holders accepting a 0.125-inch round shank, compatible with CNC lathes, manual lathes, and mill-turn setups configured for right-hand internal turning operations.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or toolroom technicians. The machine spindle must be stopped and the tool turret or holder de-energized before seating or removing the bar. Ensure the shank is clamped securely and seated to the full recommended engagement depth in the tool holder to minimize overhang deflection. Verify bore clearance and tool-path offsets in the control before initiating a cut.
