The SCIENTIFIC CUTTING TOOLS ACD5071E is a solid carbide boring insert designed for precision internal turning and boring operations on CNC and manual machining centers. Built from submicron carbide grade material and coated with an AlTiN+ finish, it delivers thermal resistance and extended tool life at elevated cutting speeds. The insert features an 80-degree diamond shape with a 15-degree relief angle, a 0.007-inch corner radius, and a 0.156-inch inscribed circle diameter. The screw-type holding method provides secure, repeatable positioning in compatible boring bar pockets. Licensed machinists and tooling technicians working in job shop or production environments are the primary users of this insert.
This insert is suited for boring and internal turning applications in ferrous and high-temperature alloy materials, including cast iron, steel, and superalloys. Its neutral cutting direction and chipbreaker designation E make it adaptable to a range of finish and semi-finish boring passes. The AlTiN+ coating supports dry or minimal-lubrication cutting in demanding production cycles where heat generation is a concern.
Designed for use in ACD series boring bar systems that accept the ACD5071 insert size and screw-type clamping. Primary workpiece materials include cast iron, steel, and superalloys.
Insert replacement should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician with the machine in a powered-off, locked-out state per applicable lockout/tagout procedures. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the boring bar manufacturer to seat the clamp screw to the correct feel - do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under excess clamping force. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Confirm proper indexing and seating before resuming cutting operations.
