The SCHUNK 1447882 is a hydraulic tool chuck designed for precision metal-cutting applications on CAT40 taper-shank spindles. It uses hydraulic clamping to grip cutting tools with a bore diameter of 9.53 mm (3/8 inch), delivering a total indicated runout (TIR) of 0.003 mm for tight tolerances and consistent surface finish. Balanced to 25,000 RPM, this chuck suits high-speed machining centers where vibration control and concentricity are critical. Through-coolant capability directs cutting fluid directly to the tool tip, extending tool life and improving chip evacuation in deep-pocket and high-feed operations. Licensed machinists and CNC setup technicians are the typical installers.
This hydraulic chuck is intended for use on vertical and horizontal machining centers equipped with a CAT40 spindle interface. With a 64 mm projection, a 27.3 mm nose diameter, and a 41 mm clamping depth, it accommodates a range of end mills, reamers, and drills in production and job-shop environments. The through-coolant feature makes it well suited for stainless steel, titanium, and other demanding workpiece materials where heat management at the cutting zone is a priority.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement hydraulic tool chuck for machining centers with a CAT40 taper-shank spindle interface and a 3/8 inch tool bore requirement.
Installation and removal should be performed by a qualified CNC machinist or toolroom technician following the machining center manufacturer's spindle service procedures. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before mounting or dismounting the chuck. Hydraulic chucks require a dedicated actuation wrench to pressurize the clamping sleeve - do not use impact tools or improvised drivers. Verify spindle taper cleanliness and confirm draw-bar torque to the spindle manufacturer's specification before returning the machine to service.
