The SANDVIK COROMANT 8290303 is a carbide profiling insert from the CoroCut 2 series, designed for precision grooving and profiling operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This insert carries manufacturer grade 1225 with a PVD-applied TiAlN/TiAlSiN/TiSiN multilayer coating, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability during interrupted and continuous cuts. The C2I insert style with a neutral hand orientation and a 2.00 mm corner radius supports consistent profile geometry. With a maximum depth of cut of 1.80 mm and two cutting edges per insert, it offers reliable performance and cost efficiency for production turning environments. Installation and use require an appropriate CoroCut 2 compatible toolholder with a clamp-style holding method.
This insert is suited for profiling applications on steel and stainless steel workpieces, corresponding to ISO material groups P and M. It is used in production and job-shop turning operations where tight profile tolerances are required. The RM chipbreaker geometry is optimized for these material groups, managing chip flow during profiling passes. Typical applications include external and internal profile turning on CNC lathes operated by machinists and tooling specialists in precision machining environments.
Designed for use in CoroCut 2 series clamp-style toolholders accepting the C2I insert style with G2 insert size code. ISO code for this insert is C2I-G2N-0400-RM 1225. Confirm toolholder compatibility with the ISO code before ordering.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the toolholder manufacturer's clamping procedure for CoroCut 2 inserts. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the machine is placed in a safe state before changing inserts. Use the correct clamping key and verify the insert is fully seated in the pocket before resuming cuts. Do not exceed the maximum depth of cut specified for this insert geometry.
