The SANDVIK COROMANT 8194362 is a carbide grooving insert in the C2I series, designed for precision external and face grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries a neutral hand orientation and a cutting width of 0.1575 inches (4.00 mm), with a maximum depth of cut of 0.0866 inches (2.20 mm). The insert is coated with a multilayer PVD TiAlN/TiAlSiN/TiSiN coating using Sandvik grade 1225, providing wear resistance and thermal stability. Two cutting edges extend tool life between index cycles. Licensed machinists and CNC turning technicians install and index this insert type during regular tooling maintenance.
This insert is suited for steel and stainless steel workpieces, covering primary material code P (steel) and secondary material code M (stainless steel). It is a multi-use tool rated for face grooving applications, making it applicable to both production turning and job shop environments. The clamp-style insert holding method is compatible with standard indexable grooving toolholders. With a rake angle of 7 degrees and TF chip breaker geometry, it is well-matched to medium-duty finishing and light roughing passes in tight groove profiles.
Designed for use with indexable grooving toolholders compatible with C2I-series inserts. ANSI/ISO designation C2I-H2N-0400-0004-TF1225 can be used to confirm holder and seat compatibility. Insert seat size is 4.
Installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine powered down and in a locked-out state before touching the cutting zone. Use the appropriate torx or hex key as specified by the toolholder manufacturer to seat the clamp securely without over-torquing the clamping screw. Inspect the insert seat for debris or wear before each index to ensure proper seating and runout control. Follow shop safety protocols and wear cut-resistant gloves when handling carbide inserts.
