The SANDVIK COROMANT 8003581 is a CNMG-style indexable turning insert in manufacturer grade S205, designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This insert features a solid carbide substrate with a CVD-applied multilayer coating of Al2O3, TiCN, and TiN, providing wear resistance and thermal stability at the cutting edge. The 80-degree triangular insert shape (C-shape) with a neutral hand orientation, a 1/2-inch inscribed circle, and a 0.0156-inch corner radius suits general-purpose turning of ISO S-group materials, including heat-resistant superalloys and titanium alloys. Clamp and screw holding methods are compatible with the CNMG seat geometry.
This insert is part of the SANDVIK COROMANT T-Max P series, engineered for productive metal removal in medium to finishing turning passes on difficult-to-machine materials. The SF chip breaker geometry promotes chip control and reduced cutting forces, making it well suited for turning heat-resistant superalloys and similar ISO S-class workpiece materials. It is installed by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments where consistent tool life and predictable chip breaking are required.
Designed for use in CNMG-style toolholders that accept a 1/2-inch inscribed circle, 3/16-inch thick triangular insert with clearance code N and tolerance code M. ISO code CNMG 12 04 04-SF S205 can be used to confirm toolholder seat compatibility. Intended for machining ISO S-group workpiece materials per the manufacturer grade designation.
Installation is performed by machinists using appropriate CNMG toolholders with clamp or screw retention. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified seating procedure for the chosen toolholder to ensure proper insert seating and secure clamping. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing a fresh cutting edge.
