The SANDVIK COROMANT 8003540 is a solid carbide turning insert designated CNMG432-QM in the S205 grade, engineered for the T-Max P series tooling system. The insert carries a multi-layer CVD coating of Al2O3, TiCN, and TiN applied over a carbide substrate, providing thermal resistance and wear protection during interrupted and continuous turning operations. With an 80-degree diamond shape (Insert Shape Code C), a 0.5-inch inscribed circle, and a 0.03125-inch corner radius, this neutral-hand insert is sized for medium-duty turning passes. Licensed machinists and CNC operators working in precision manufacturing install this insert in standard CNMG-style toolholders.
This insert is rated for primary use on superalloys and titanium alloys, material group S per ISO classification. The QM chip breaker geometry is designed to manage the tough, stringy chips characteristic of these materials. It fits standard CNMG 12 04 08 toolholder pockets and is interchangeable under ISO designation CNMG 12 04 08-QM S205. Typical applications include turning of aerospace components, medical implant stock, and high-temperature alloy parts where heat resistance at the cutting edge is critical. Insert installation and indexing should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC setup technician with the machine in a full stop, lockout-tagout state. Use the appropriate torx or hex key specified by the toolholder manufacturer when tightening the clamp or screw — do not overtighten, as carbide inserts are brittle and can crack under excessive clamping load. Inspect the toolholder pocket seating surface for chips or debris before seating a new insert. Follow your facility safety procedures and the toolholder manufacturer guidelines for proper insert retention.
