The SANDVIK COROMANT 7861241 is a TNMG433-QM 4425 grade solid carbide turning insert designed for external and internal turning operations on steel and cast iron workpieces. Part of the T-Max P series, this triangular insert features a CVD coating system combining Al2O3, TiN, and TiCN layers for high wear resistance and moderate toughness. The QM chip breaker geometry supports roughing and medium machining applications. With a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, a 1.19 mm corner radius, and a neutral hand orientation, this insert suits a broad range of turning setups. It is held in place via clamp or screw and delivers six cutting edges per insert, maximizing cost per edge for high-volume production environments.
This insert is intended for CNC and manual lathe applications in metalworking shops, tool rooms, and production machining facilities. The 4425 grade is optimized for primary use on steel (ISO P) and secondary use on cast iron (ISO K), covering common roughing and medium-finish turning cycles. The ANSI insert code TNMG433 and ISO code TNMG 22 04 12-QM 4425 allow direct cross-reference when specifying toolholders or replacing worn inserts in existing setups. Machinists and tool crib managers working within ISO or ANSI tooling systems will find this insert straightforward to specify and source.
Designed for use in TNMG-style toolholders accepting a 0.5 inch inscribed circle, 3/16 inch thick triangular insert with a negative relief angle and neutral hand. ANSI insert code TNMG433 and ISO code TNMG 22 04 12 allow direct toolholder cross-reference. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO P); secondary is cast iron (ISO K).
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or tool crib technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before seating or indexing the insert. Ensure the toolholder pocket and clamping surfaces are clean and free of chips before installing. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's torque specification for the clamping screw; do not exceed the specified clamp force as this may fracture the carbide substrate.
