The SANDVIK COROMANT 7861062 is a VNMG-style indexable turning insert from the T-Max P series, designed for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries manufacturer grade 4425 and features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of Al2O3, TiCN, and TiN for wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and interrupted cuts. The insert has a 35-degree diamond shape (ISO code V), a neutral hand orientation, and a 0.40 mm corner radius. With four cutting edges per insert, it is suited for medium to finish turning where consistent tool life and surface finish are priorities. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install and index this insert type.
This insert is engineered primarily for steel (ISO material group P) and secondarily for cast iron (ISO material group K), making it well suited for job shops and production environments that run both material types. The T-Max P series targets general external turning, profiling, and facing applications on conventional and CNC turning equipment. The PF chip breaker geometry is optimized for light to medium depth-of-cut finishing passes where chip control and surface finish are critical. The 3/8-inch inscribed circle and 3/16-inch insert thickness fit standard VNMG toolholders common in production turning setups.
Designed for use in standard VNMG-style toolholders that accept a 3/8-inch inscribed circle insert with a 0.1500-inch hole diameter. ISO code VNMG 16 04 04-PF 4425. Compatible with toolholder systems using clamp or screw clamping methods for VNMG inserts.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists or CNC tooling technicians. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench and insert screw per the toolholder manufacturer specification when using screw-style clamping. Handle carbide inserts with care to avoid chipping the cutting edges during installation and storage.
