The SANDVIK COROMANT 7861039 is a TCMT-style triangular turning insert engineered for precision external turning operations. Built on the CoroTurn 107 platform, this solid carbide insert features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of Al2O3, TiN, and TiCN under the manufacturer grade 4425, delivering wear resistance across a range of cutting conditions. The insert has a 5/32 inch (3.97 mm) inscribed circle, a 0.0156 inch (0.40 mm) corner radius, and a PF chipbreaker geometry designed for finishing and light-to-medium roughing on steel. The neutral hand orientation suits both conventional and climb cutting setups. Licensed machinists and CNC operators install this insert in compatible CoroTurn 107 toolholders.
This insert is rated primarily for steel workpiece materials (ISO material code P) with secondary suitability for cast iron (ISO material code K). The 60-degree triangular shape provides three cutting edges per insert, improving cost-per-edge value in production turning environments. Typical applications include shaft turning, facing, and contour work on small-to-medium diameter components in job shop or production floor settings where consistent surface finish and dimensional control are required. The PF chipbreaker promotes reliable chip formation at lower depths of cut and feed rates common to finish turning passes.
Designed for use in SANDVIK COROMANT CoroTurn 107 series toolholders accepting TCMT 06T1 insert size. ISO designation TCMT 06 T1 04-PF 4425 can be used to identify compatible clamping systems. The insert accepts both clamp and screw holding methods as specified by the toolholder design.
Insert installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician following the toolholder manufacturer torque and clamping procedure. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the tool is secured in the turret before changing inserts. Inspect the insert seat and clamping screw for debris or wear before seating a new insert. Rotate or replace the insert when cutting edge wear affects surface finish or dimensional tolerance rather than attempting to regrind carbide inserts.
