The SANDVIK COROMANT 7861021 is a carbide cutoff insert designed for parting and grooving operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It carries the ISO designation QD-NG-0300-0003-CL 4425 and belongs to the CoroCut QD series. The insert features a 0.1181-inch cutting width, a neutral lead angle, and a chipbreaker geometry designated CL, which promotes controlled chip formation during deep grooving and cutoff work. The substrate is a cemented carbide (HC) grade 4425, coated via CVD with a TiCN/Al2O3/TiN multilayer stack for extended tool life in steel and stainless steel applications. A 7-degree relief angle and a 0.0118-inch corner radius complete the cutting geometry.
This insert is intended for parting-off and external grooving in production turning environments, both light industrial and heavy production. The CoroCut QD platform is commonly used in applications where rigid clamping and chip control are priorities, such as bar-fed turning centers and multi-spindle setups. The neutral cutting direction makes the insert suitable for both left-hand and right-hand toolholders designed for the QD-N insert style. Licensed machinists and CNC operators typically select this grade for general steel and alloyed steel workpieces where consistent tool life across high-volume runs is required.
Designed as a replacement insert for CoroCut QD series toolholders accepting QD-N style inserts with insert size code G. Verify toolholder seat and clamping unit compatibility with the QD-NG insert geometry before installation.
Insert seating and clamping should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing inserts. Use the correct torx or clamping key specified for the CoroCut QD toolholder to avoid seat damage or improper clamping force. Do not exceed the cutting parameters published in the toolholder manufacturer documentation for this insert size and grade.
