The SANDVIK COROMANT 7860997 is a DNMG-style indexable turning insert in the T-Max P series, engineered for external turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This insert features a solid carbide substrate with a CVD-applied multilayer coating of Al2O3, TiN, and TiCN under manufacturer grade 4425. The 55-degree diamond shape provides a strong cutting geometry, while the 1.19 mm corner radius and neutral hand orientation suit a wide range of finishing and semi-finishing passes. The PR chip breaker geometry is optimized for steel and cast iron machining where consistent chip control is required at moderate to high cutting speeds.
This insert is suited for production turning of steel components and cast iron parts in both residential and industrial manufacturing environments. The T-Max P series is commonly used in high-volume CNC turning operations where insert reliability, edge life, and predictable wear are priorities. Operators running medium depth-of-cut passes on low-alloy steels, carbon steels, and gray or ductile cast iron will find the 4425 grade appropriate for their application. The four available cutting edges per insert support cost-effective tool management on the production floor.
Designed for use in standard DNMG-style toolholders accepting a 5/8 inch inscribed circle insert with a 0.250 inch hole diameter. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO code P); secondary workpiece material is cast iron (ISO code K). ISO designation: DNMG 19 06 12-PR 4425.
Installation is performed by qualified CNC machinists or tooling technicians. The machine spindle must be stopped and all axes locked before indexing or replacing the insert. Seat the insert firmly against the toolholder pocket locating surfaces before tightening the clamp or screw to ensure proper seating and edge alignment. Follow the toolholder manufacturer's clamping torque specifications and consult applicable shop safety procedures when handling carbide inserts.
