The SANDVIK COROMANT 7860962 is a solid carbide turning insert designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. This insert carries a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN under manufacturer grade 4425, a designation engineered for wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and interrupted cuts. The triangular insert shape (ISO code A) provides three usable cutting edges, and the neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with a wide range of toolholder configurations. The 0.40 mm corner radius and 11.00 mm inscribed circle define its cutting geometry, making it well suited for medium stock removal applications in steel and cast iron.
This insert is part of the CoroTurn Prime series and is intended for use in general turning applications on CNC machining equipment. The L5 chip breaker geometry is optimized for steel as the primary workpiece material (ISO material group P) and cast iron as the secondary workpiece material (ISO material group K). Typical users include CNC machinists and toolroom technicians in production shops, job shops, and maintenance machining environments. The insert is held in place using a clamp or screw-type toolholder, which are the standard retention methods for this insert style.
Designed for use with CoroTurn Prime series toolholders that accept the CP-A1104-L5 insert style. Compatible with ISO P (steel) and ISO K (cast iron) workpiece materials. Verify toolholder bore and clamp specifications against the insert dimensions before installation.
This insert is installed by qualified CNC machinists or toolroom technicians familiar with indexable tooling systems. Power down and lock out the machine spindle before indexing or replacing the insert. Seat the insert fully against the pocket locating surfaces before tightening the clamp or screw to the toolholder manufacturer's specified procedure. Inspect the insert pocket for chips or debris before each installation to prevent seating errors that can cause premature edge failure.
