The SANDVIK COROMANT 7860887 is a solid carbide turning insert in the T-Max P series, designed for precision external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Designated DNMX331-WF 4425, it features a 55-degree diamond shape (Shape Code D) with a neutral hand orientation and a WF chip breaker geometry. The insert is CVD-coated with a TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN multilayer stack in manufacturer grade 4425, delivering wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous and interrupted cuts. With four cutting edges per insert, it provides extended tool life and lower cost-per-edge in production turning environments.
This insert is suited for medium to finishing turning passes on steel and cast iron workpieces in both residential-scale job shops and high-volume production facilities. The WF chip breaker geometry targets light-to-medium depth-of-cut applications where controlled chip formation is critical. It seats using either a clamp or screw holding method and fits standard DNMX-style toolholders. Machinists and CNC programmers working to tight tolerances will find the M tolerance class and N clearance angle appropriate for consistent, repeatable results across multi-part runs.
Designed for use with DNMX-style toolholders that accept a 55-degree diamond insert with a 0.15-inch (decimal inch) inscribed circle and a screw or clamp holding method. ISO code DNMX 11 04 04-WF 4425. Primary workpiece material is steel (ISO code P); secondary workpiece material is cast iron (ISO code K).
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC tooling technician with the machine spindle fully stopped and all axis motion disabled before changing inserts. Use the appropriate torque wrench or insert key specified by the toolholder manufacturer when securing the clamping screw to avoid seat damage or insert cracking. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before seating the new insert. Follow the toolholder manufacturer guidelines for insert indexing sequence to maximize all four cutting edges.
