The SANDVIK COROMANT 7860877 is a solid carbide turning insert designated CCMT 09 T3 08-UR 4425, designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. It features a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN, which provides wear resistance and thermal stability during continuous cutting. The insert has an 80-degree diamond shape (CCMT insert style), a 3/8-inch inscribed circle (0.375 inches), a 0.79 mm corner radius, and a neutral hand orientation. It carries two cutting edges per insert. This part is specified for use by machinists and CNC operators in production turning environments.
The 7860877 is primarily rated for steel (ISO material code P) and secondarily for cast iron (ISO material code K). The UR chip breaker geometry is suited to medium finishing and semi-finishing passes where consistent chip control is required. Typical applications include shaft turning, facing, and contouring on ferrous workpieces. The CCMT insert style is held by clamp or screw, making it compatible with standard CCMT-style turning toolholders used in both light and medium-duty turning applications. The CoroTurn 107 series designation indicates intended use in boring bars and external turning holders designed around that platform.
Designed for use in SANDVIK COROMANT CoroTurn 107 series toolholders and compatible CCMT-style boring bars and external turning holders that accept a CCMT 09 T3 insert size. Clamp and screw holding methods are supported. ISO code CCMT 09 T3 08-UR 4425 and catalog reference CCMT 3(2.5)2-UR 4425 may be used for cross-referencing with toolholder documentation.
Installation is performed by a machinist or CNC tooling technician. Before indexing or replacing inserts, the machine must be stopped and the spindle fully locked out per standard lockout/tagout procedures. Seat the insert firmly into the pocket with the correct clamp or screw torque as specified by the toolholder manufacturer for CCMT 09 T3 inserts. Inspect the insert pocket and seating surface for chips or debris before installing to ensure proper seating and prevent premature edge failure.
