The SANDVIK COROMANT 7860866 is a CCMT-style solid carbide turning insert designed for external and internal turning operations on CNC lathes and turning centers. Manufactured under the CoroTurn 107 series, this insert carries a CVD-applied multilayer coating of TiCN, Al2O3, and TiN — a combination engineered to resist built-up edge on steel and cast iron workpieces. The 80-degree diamond shape (Insert Shape Code C) provides a strong cutting edge geometry, while the UM chip breaker controls chip flow across a broad range of depths and feed rates. It holds a 9.53 mm inscribed circle and a 0.4 mm corner radius, fitting CCMT 09 T3 toolholders. Installation and indexing are handled by machinists and CNC operators in production and job-shop environments.
This insert is suited for finishing and semi-finishing passes on steel (ISO P materials) and cast iron (ISO K materials) in both light production and high-mix turning setups. The neutral hand orientation makes it compatible with right-hand and left-hand toolholders that accept CCMT geometry inserts. The UM chip breaker geometry is optimized for moderate feed rates and varying depths of cut, making this insert practical across a wide range of part sizes and material conditions common in general machining. Two cutting edges are available per insert, supporting cost-effective indexing during tool changes.
Designed for use in SANDVIK COROMANT CoroTurn 107 series toolholders accepting CCMT 09 T3 insert geometry. ISO code CCMT 09 T3 04-UM 4425. Compatible with toolholders designed for clamp and screw insert retention with CCMT-style inserts. Primary workpiece materials are steel (ISO P) and cast iron (ISO K).
Insert indexing and seating should be performed by a qualified machinist or CNC operator with the machine in a full lockout/tagout state and spindle confirmed stationary. Inspect the insert pocket and clamping components for debris or wear before seating a new insert. Use the correct torque wrench and manufacturer-specified fasteners when securing clamp or screw retention — do not overtighten or substitute hardware. Confirm insert orientation matches the neutral-hand designation of the toolholder before resuming cutting operations.
